YouTube’s New AI Policy Targets Low-Quality Content



YouTube is rolling out major policy changes this month aimed at tackling low-effort, AI-generated content. Starting July 15, the platform will demonetize channels that rely heavily on repetitive, non-original AI videos.

This decision comes after growing criticism that AI is flooding YouTube with low-value content, making it harder for viewers to find quality videos. The new policy requires creators to add meaningful input or originality when using AI tools to generate videos.

In a blog post, YouTube clarified that AI can still be used, but creators must clearly label AI-generated content and ensure it offers real value. The company stated, “We want to support creativity, not automation for automation’s sake.”

Alongside stricter content rules, YouTube is also introducing AI-powered upgrades for users. Premium subscribers in the U.S. now have access to a new “AI search carousel,” which offers short video previews, summaries, and smarter results when searching for topics like travel, tech reviews, or tutorials.

These updates are part of a broader effort by Google to make AI more responsible and useful. Just last month, Google launched Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash — powerful AI models designed to deliver faster and more conversational search results.

On a global level, regulators are keeping a close eye on AI developments. The European Union has started enforcing the AI Act, which classifies AI tools into different risk categories, requiring transparency for some and stricter control for others.

Meanwhile, in the health sector, the World Health Organization (WHO) is preparing to host its “AI for Good” summit in Geneva on July 11. The summit will highlight how AI is being used to improve healthcare access and diagnostics worldwide.

These back-to-back developments signal a new phase for AI on the internet — one that prioritizes quality, responsibility, and meaningful use over volume.
